Schietsdrift School ‘Education is Key’

A rural school serving a rural community, working with international partners to form a

global learning community.

Schietsdrift School serves the rural community of Winterton and the surrounding area. Previously two schools: Mpondweni and Schitsdrift until they merged to form the combined school a few years ago.  We have approximately 200 students from Grades 1 - 8 whose home language is Zulu although students also learn English with us.

We are financially supported by a Board of Trustees, through Lynette Heron of Spion Kop Lodge, and the church of Eka Jesu whose land and buildings we share.

As a result of our international partnerships, we are able to offer our students unique learning opportunities both in and out of the classroom and these partnerships have also allowed us to benefit from a wide range of resources to support our curriculum and teaching. For example, we are now able to use some Information Technology to prepare lessons and teaching materials and  we recognise the need to improve basic literacy through the use of our relatively new library.

We are always open to learning new approaches and, therefore, welcome our international student and teacher visitors and volunteers with open arms and minds. The success of our students is always our priority and we work to ensure that they are fully prepared for future employability and success.
